Northside History

The school was built with British Overseas Aid in 1974 and administered by the Botswana Government until 1977 when it became private. The school does not receive any financial aid for recurrent expenses. It has received generous grants from the Government of the United States of America since 1979. Founder Member Companies – Anglo American Corporation, Barclays Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Sun International, AoN Botswana, Murray and Roberts, Builders Merchants Botswana and Barloworld Botswana guaranteed the school when it became private and continue their support.

Debentures were sold to other private companies in Botswana to fund capital projects: Interprop (Pty) Ltd, Kgalagadi Management Services, Motor Centre, Price Waterhouse, Deloitte & Touche, Water Utilities, Chinese Embassy, A & J Construction to name a few. Northside Primary School is a private, international English-medium school re-accredited by The Council of International Schools (CIS) in 2006, approved by the Ministry of Education, Botswana and recognised by the Overseas Schools’ Advisory Council of the Department of State, Washington D.C.

Northside Primary School was accredited by the International Baccalaureate on the 17th November 2011. We had a successful IB Evaluation in March 2016. We are proud to be an IB World School by offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Northside is a member of the Council of International Schools, the Independent Schools’ Association of Southern Africa, and the Conference of Heads of Private Schools of Botswana. Northside School is recognized as an IB World School.

At the beginning of each term, one student will be elected from each Std 1-7 class to join Student Council as an afternoon activity. Students who are a part of the Student Council must demonstrate great commitment and responsibility to taking action within the school community.
